The Arts at Marble Arch

This is a fascinating building.

The Arts Theatre in Great Newport Street had to close down to be refurbished. The work was to take 2 years, so Theatre Manager Andrew Mills went to the council and asked where in central London could he build a theatre.

So they said Marble Arch. But it can only stay there for 2 years. We might extend, but then again, we might not.

So Andrew said, That’s OK I only want it for two years whilst the Arts Theatre is being refurbished.

But Andrew thought if it was successful he might like to keep it there.

So the council said great!

But Andrew was cautious so instead of building a normal theatre he basically built a theatre kit.

So now, at the end of the two years he can keep it there or he can take it down and then, and this is the brilliant bit, build it somewhere else!

Genius!

At the moment the address is Marble Arch, London. W1H 7DX and the closest tube station is Marble Arch on the Central Line. But in two years time it could be anywhere. Leicester Square, The Southbank, Bidwell, the Sahara Desert, the North pole… it could even be the new ballroom at the White House!

That’s pretty clever!
