The Welsh National Theatre is bringing the first major revival of Amadeus for ten years to London and its starring Michael Sheen. Written by Peter Shaffer, Amadeus Theatre Breaks will be available for the Noël Coward Theatre run in April 2027, following a critically acclaimed season in Cardiff. Book your break bach!
It’s the news that Michael Sheen will star as Antonio Salieri is what will get theatre break audiences’ hearts pumping. Callum Scott Howells joins him as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Sheen has previously played both Mozart and Salieri at different points in his career, has described the project as a “full-circle moment,” so he should be getting good at it!
The Salieri part is the one that holds the piece together and drives it forward. I played Mozart half a lifetime ago and was completely outshone by Keith Davey playing Salieri. The way he moved between the younger version of himself and the older Salieri (who is narrating the play and giving the audience an insight into his own motivation) was something to behold. So no pressure Michael!
The production is directed by Jeremy Herrin, the Olivier Award-winning director known for his dynamic and emotionally rich interpretations of classic and contemporary works.
Amadeus centres on the complex relationship between Salieri, a respected court composer, and Mozart, the brilliant but unruly prodigy whose talent appears almost divine. The story unfolds as a retrospective confession, with Salieri recounting his obsession with Mozart and the destructive consequences that follow. This psychological intensity, combined with the integration of Mozart’s music, has made the play one of the most enduring works in modern theatre.
The 2027 revival is a collaboration involving Welsh National Theatre, founded by Sheen, making this its West End debut and highlighting Welsh creative talent on one of the world’s most prominent theatrical stages.

When are breaks to see Amadeus available?
The production at the Noel Coward Theatre runs from 17 April to 07 August 2027. Evening performances start at 19:30 Monday to Saturday with matinees on Saturday at 14:30. At time of writing, Theatre Breaks have ticket and hotel and travel packages available for all performances.
What hotels are included in Amadeus packages?
The theatre is the Noel Coward Theatre on St Martin`s Lane, London. So the closest hotels are all 4 and 5 star hotels and so, especially at the beginning of the run, quite expensive. Save money on the hotels by booking towards the end of the run when summer discounts kick in.

The theatre is also really close to Leicester Square, so it is eay to hop on a tube and head out to Kensington or Chelsea. A nice walk across the river is also something that I always encourage on a London break, so why not go for one of the Southbank hotels?
