The Devil Wears Prada - The Musical London Theatre Breaks

The musical of the film of the book comes to London starring Ugly Betty’s Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly – the formidable editor in chief of Runway Magazine who takes on fresh-out-of-college graduate, Andy, as her new assistant.

But how low will her new assistant stoop to satisfy her new boss and will she sell her soul to this devil in Alaia red suede pumps?

The musical ran in Chicago before crossing the Atlantic and after what I understand to be a re-work of the whole show (including Elton John’s music), it opened at Plymouth’s Theatre Royal in the summer of 2024.

London

Then the musical came to London, and the Dominion on 24 October – just a week after London Vintage Fashion Fair: they could have timed that better.

Prada

What will you wear to see The Devil Wear’s Prada? Well if you are thinking of following in the heels of Vogue’s Anna Wintour, when she turned up for the World Premiere of the movie, starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, it has go to be Prada! obvs! But of course that was because  Streep’s character was rumoured to be based on her! If you don’t happen to be in the enviable position of having the lead character of a smash hit Hollywood movie based on you, then what ever you are wearing will be fine: BUT….. if you are thinking of combining seeing the show with a bit of high-end retail therapy the Dominion is just a short taxi ride from Prada on Old Bond Street and Prada in Selfridges at the other end of Oxford Street.

If you feel the need to re-use an old frock, bear in mind that the Pantone colour of the year for 2025 is 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, so think milk coffee tones and you will bang on trend.

The Theatre Break

But back to the show! and the theatre break. If you do need to be close to the theatre and the fashion houses of Mayfair and you need to be seen in the very best places, I would go for the 5 star Dilly or the Courthouse just near Oxford Circus and opposite Liberty’s of London and Carnaby Street.

But as always with Theatre Breaks, there is more than one way to stay in London (and for a range of budgets!) so as no-one knows where you have come from if you turn up in a limousine, there is a great choice of hotels all over London: for goodness sakes – Stanley Tucci lives in Barnes!!!
