Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for London Theatre Breaks
What’s the cheapest day to see a show?
Midweek performances (Tuesday to Thursday) are generally the most affordable. Matinee performances can also be cheaper than evening shows.
What’s the dress code for London theatres?
There is no written dress code for London theatres. People like to dress up if they are celebrating a special occasion and everyone likes to see that someone has made an effort. Especially if it is date night!
Of course there are some people lucky enough to be able to book a ticket last minute and they will just walk in wearing whatever they are wearing – work clothes, even shorts are not uncommon – especially for matinees.
Two things I would highlight. At the end of the evening when you spill out into the cool late night air, you may be glad of a coat.
If you are sitting high up in the theatre then it can get very warm.
Smart casual is the most common phrase I hear used, but what ever you feel comfortable in.
What are the best seats in the theatre?
Seats in the stalls close to the stage or the front of the dress circle are considered premium seats and are usually the most expensive. But you don’t have to pay top dollar for a great view. Choose your seat from our theatre plans during the booking process.
Can I book Rail Travel with my theatre break
Our theatre and hotel packages all come with optional rail travel, with savings of up to 50%.
Can I book coach, theatre and hotel packages?
Yes, our theatre packages come with optional coach travel.
Is breakfast included in my theatre package
Yes, breakfast is available at most of our London hotels although at many hotels it is optional, so if you would rather enjoy breakfast at a theatreland café, then you can take your choice: ask your concierge for their recommendation of local restaurants and cafés
How far in advance do I have to book.
London shows and hotels can open their bookings as much as 9 months in advance. As I write this at 13:44 on a Sunday I can also book a theatre break for tomorrow!
- Booking in advance is recommended, especially for popular shows or if you have specific seat preferences.
- Tickets are normally sent by email so you don’t have to wait for them in the post.
Can I book for groups?
Yes you can make group bookings. Online you can only book for 10 people, so if your group is larger than that, call our reservations team on 0800 633 8000
Can I book family rooms
Yes you can book family rooms at many of our hotels. Some have suites, others are double doubles, others have sofa beds that can open up for the kiddies. Prices and layouts vary enormously, so do have a check around for your perfect family room.
How many people can stay in a family room
You can have up to two children with two adults in our family rooms, although it varies from hotel to hotel. One child and one adult would stay in a standard twin room and be charged as such. Discounts for children are only available when sharing a room with two adults.
Are there any discounts or special offers available?
Many theatre and hotels offer seasonal promotions. Theatres can be cheaper midweek, hotels can be cheaper in the summer months and over Christmas and into January. Midweek theatre breaks in January are where I look for the deals, but you will find your own deals all over the calendar!
