Designed by W.G.R.Sprague the theatre first opened on 22nd May 1905. The theatre was originally called the Waldorf Theatre, due to it sharing a building with the famous hotel of the same name, until 1909 when it became known as The Strand. It was renamed the Novello Theatre in 2005, three quarters of a century after Ivor Davies also changed his name to Novello! The Theatre is Grade II listed because of the Georgian exterior.
