‘A golden evening that is full of joy and sunshine. This pitch-perfect production shows Danny DeVito and Richard Griffiths at the top of their game’ – Daily Telegraph
The Sunshine Boys is at the Savoy Theatre and is directed by Thea Sharrock. It is on until Saturday July 28th and for theatre breaks, the hotels nearby include the 5* Savoy Hotel, the 4* Guoman Charing Cross and the 3 star Strand Palace Hotel. A great pre-theatre meal can be taken at Salieri’s just opposite on the Strand.
The Sunshine Boys first made a name for itself when it appeared on Broadway back in 1972. A young theatrical agent attempts to re-unite his elderly uncle, a former vaudevillian great, with his long-time stage partner for a TV reunion. Despite their celebrated reputation, the two old men have not spoken in twelve years. Besides remastering their act, the two men have numerous issues to work out before they are ready to return to the public eye!
In addition to film roles in a number of Hollywood favourites, including LA Confidential, Batman Returns, Taxi and Twins, DeVito also starred in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
DeVito has turned his hand to producing and directing in the past, having worked on classics like Pulp Fiction, Erin Brockovich and Matilda.
Griffiths will also be a familiar face to many, having appeared in a number of the Harry Potter films, The History Boys and The Naked Gun 2 ½ : The Smell of Fear.
The closest tube station to the Savoy Theatre is Covent Garden although Charing Cross is not that far away either.
The best seats for The Sunshine Boys are the stalls but all seats at this theatre are very good – even the cheaper ones at the back .
