Mrs Doubtfire leapt into our top five most popular London musicals in 2025 (it made a great highlight to a Family weekend break in London especially for Easter).

You know the story! An unemployed actor loses custody of his three children and so desperate is he to prove that he can provide for his family and so determined is he to stay close to his kids, that he creates the character of Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, and applies to be the children’s nanny.

The show was the perfect mix of the original Hollywood movie and West End musical

All your favourite themes and scenes were still there but, with 17 original songs and the special experience that live theatre can add to any story, this really was a perfect London break highlight.

Armed with only his acting talent, a vacuum cleaner, and an iconic grey wig, Daniel begins to work his way back into his children’s lives. But he discovers along the way that he still has a lot to learn about being a father, and that Mrs. Doubtfire may be the perfect person to teach him.

The musical was directed by Jerry Zaks whose a bit of  a Broadway king with a host of Tony awards and nominations to his name.

Mrs Doubtfire was choreographed by Lorin Latarro whose New York CV includes Into The Woods, Waitress, Les Liasons Dangereuse, the Waiting For Godot production that starred Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stuart and even La Traviata for the world famous The Met Opera.

Family Hotels for Theatre Breaks Packages

There are some great hotels in the West End for families especially for families with younger children and young teenagers who want to share a room to keep the price down.

The NYX Hotel in London’s Holborn is just a short walk from the Shaftesbury Theatre. If you’ve got the time during your theatre break you can enjoy the sauna, swimming pool, American themed restaurant and gym at this popular four star hotel.

The four star Radisson Blu Edwardian Grafton Hotel has some lovely rooms for a family sharing – with a double bed for the grown ups and sofa bed for the kids. It is also a short walk from many West End Theatres.

Holiday Inn Bloomsbury and the Crown Plaza Kings Cross are two four star hotels that demonstrate that you do not need to compromise in quality to get a good deal on a family room for a family break. The reason is that 3 star hotels tend to have smaller rooms which just cannot accommodate a family. So the larger four star hotel rooms  are perfect for a family.
