Disney’s stage adaptation of The Greatest Showman will begin previews at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Wednesday 14 April 2027, with its official opening night on Wednesday 5 May. The initial booking period runs to 2 October 2027.

The musical is based on the 2017 film about P.T. Barnum, the showman who built a circus from the people polite society preferred not to see. It had its world premiere at the Bristol Hippodrome this spring, where its eight-week run sold out. It is the first 20th Century Studios title that Disney Theatrical Group has brought to the stage, produced with The Seelig Group, which made the film. This is the third Disney stage show at the Theatre Royal Drury lane, following Frozen and Hercules.

Many of the cast from the Bristol run will come to London with the show, including Oliver Tompsett and Samantha Barks as P.T. and Charity Barnum. Barks knows the building well, having played Elsa there in Frozen. They are joined by Ben Joyce as Phillip Carlyle, Vajèn van den Bosch as Jenny Lind and Malinda Parris as Lettie Lutz.

The film’s soundtrack has a following all of its own, and Benj Pasek and Justin Paul’s songs are all here: The Greatest Show, A Million Dreams, Come Alive, Rewrite the Stars, Never Enough and This Is Me. The pair have also written new songs for the stage.

Tim Federle has written the book, and Casey Nicholaw, the two-time Tony winner who directed Hercules, directs and choreographs. Circus runs through the staging, with Lorenzo Pisoni responsible for circus creation and Skylar Fox for illusions.

Once the show has opened, performances are Monday to Saturday at 7pm, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm. The theatre stands on Catherine Street in Covent Garden, a few minutes’ walk from Covent Garden and Holborn Tube stations.

London Theatre Breaks expects to offer theatre and hotel packages, with optional discounted rail, once tickets go on sale in November. Details will appear at theatrebreaks.co.uk.

Two Different Showmen

This is exciting because now we have two Greatest Showman universe musicals in London – this and Come Alive at The Big Top, Empress Museum which also features many of the same songs. What will happen, will they both run and run? Currently Come Alive is booking theatre breaks through to August 2027.
