See what’s on next at the Theatre Royal Haymarket
James Phillip’s haunting play McQueen transfers to the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a strictly limited season.
Award winning actor Stephen Wight reprises his role as the eponymous fashion designer, Lee Alexander McQueen, when the play transfers from the St James’ theatre to the West End in Agust 2015.
Set in just one wild night, McQueen tells the story of Dahlia (originally played by TV’s Glee actress Dianna Argon), a mysterious girl who hides in a tree outside the fashion designer’s home, secretly watching him as he struggles to find inspiration for his new collection. Eventually she breaks in intent on stealing one of his magnificent creations and is caught by McQueen, but instead of dialling 999, they embark on a journey through the dark yet glorious streets of night-time London – two lost souls trying to find the comfort they both desire for entirely different reasons.
Janet McQueen, one of McQueen’s sisters, said of the original production… It was as though the play and Stephen’s performance brought Lee back to me again. I felt as though he was real again for me.
Gary McQueen, his nephew, added… It does really hit something in your heart.
Wight is joined by Carly Bawden who takes over the role of Dahlia with Tracy-Ann Oberman, Laura Rees and Michael Bertenshaw.
