I’m talking about the musical Martin Guerre about a 16th century French farmer who had his identity stolen by a man who subsequently lived with his wife for three years! The one written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg (of Les Miserable and Miss Saigon fame)?
Well ever since COVID (remember that?) Boublil and Schönberg have been working on a reimagined version. And packages to see it at the Old Vic are available to book now.
And now, with new music, new lyrics, new folk-inflected orchestrations and a thrilling new In-The-Round staging there is a new semi staged production going on at the Old Vic during October.
So the extraordinary true story of forbidden love, deceit and passion on trail, in an all-new version, is back. And honestly, if this version is successful I think there will be more opportunities to see this award-winning musical. But for the moment. It’s just 5 weeks worth of shows and we only have midweek packages available.
Developed and directed by Matthew Warchus, now you can experience this captivating tale as you’ve never seen it before. It is also only 90 minutes long without an interval so you will be out by 9pm!
If you want to come down to London to see it I’d get a move on booking it. We only have limited midweek dates for ticket/hotel and travel packages.
Regarding hotels, The Old Vic is south of the river, so whilst the tickets are a good price, some of the hotel rates are quite high during the middle of the week. It might be best jumping on the tube and picking a hotel a short underground or taxi journey away. The National in Bloomsbury is doing some good deals.
