King Charles III tickets are no longer available to book. See what’s on next at the Wyndhams theatre
The Queen is dead… Long live the King!
After a lifetime of waiting, Prince Charles finally ascends the throne. But how to rule?
Mike Bartlett’s hypothetical but canny extrapolation of Charles’ morality and actions pulls the issue of whether we would ever want an unelected monarch overruling our democratically elected government sharply into focus.
Written mostly in blank verse, with wry nods to Shakespeare’s history plays, King Charles III is politically thoughtful and astute as it takes dead-eyed aim at the instution of our monarchy and its would-be King.
Following a sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre, this ‘bracingly provocative and outrageously entertaining new play’ (The Independent) is directed by Rupert Goold and stars Tim Piggot Smith (ITV’s The Bletchley Circle) in the lead role with Oliver Chris (BBC3’s Bluestone 42) playing his son & heir, William.
