Hay Fever Theatre Breaks

Hayfever Theatre Breaks are no longer available to book. See what’s on next at the Duke of York’s theatre

British TV darlings Simon Shepherd and Felicity Kendal star in the Lindsay Posner directed Noel Coward comedy classic Hay Fever when it transfers from the Theatre Royal Bath to the Duke of York’s at the end of April.

ITV’s Rosemary & Thyme star Felicity Kendal plays Judith Bliss (lauded by critics as “the greatest performance of her career”) – the once glittering star of the London stage – and reprising his role as Kendal’s on-stage husband, David, is ITV’s Peak Practice “Doctor Dreamy” Simon Shepherd who returns to the West End stage following the Olivier Award nominated comedy The Duck House last year.

In this hilarious comedy of bad manners, The Bliss family are unconventional, risque and often downright rude. In fact everything a respectable English family shouldn’t be and they certainly cannot share the lime light with anyone else. So when each member of the family invites a house guest for a weekend in the country, there are bound to be many a melodramatic scene, over the top angst and, of course, scandalous revelations – all the hallmarks of Coward at his fun-poking best.

Nearest hotels

When looking for nearby hotels consider the Radisson Blu Edwardian Leicester Square (a five minute walk to the theatre) or the elegant 4 star deluxe Kingsway Hall on the other side of Covent Garden. For a rather swish five star break do check the Waldorf Hilton but if you are watching the pennies then the 3 star St Giles on the north side of Oxford Street or even the centrally located Covent Garden Travelodge may fit the bill. However, do consider the Bedford Hotel in leafy Russell Square too, which has just been done up and looks the bees knees (for a three star) and is a very reasonable price!
