Aint Too Proud

Aint Too Proud Theatre Breaks

I’m afraid that you have missed the music of Motown legends, The Temptations which took London’s West End by storm with the arrival of Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations at the Prince Edward Theatre in Soho.

Aint Too Proud London Theatre Breaks

Aint Too Proud follows the Temptations’ rise to stardom, from humble beginnings on the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, against a backdrop of brutal racial discrimination in 1960’s America.

The show is actually produced by Otis Williams, one of the group’s original members, who , along with  David Ruffin,  Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin and Paul Williams created such mega soul hits as  “My Girl” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”.

The Temptations have sold almost 14 million albums world wide and were Motown’s most successful act and their first to win a Grammy Award (for “Cloud Nine” in 1969). They also received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.

But all the success came at a cost and arrogance, cocaine addiction and broken relationships brought them back down to the streets where they started.

The West End production of Aint Too Proud brought together the artistic team of, director, Tony Award winner Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo (who won the Tony in 2019 for his choreography on this show).

Theatre/Hotel Packages

Right in the heart of Soho and Theatreland the Prince Edward Theatre has lots of great hotels withing walking distance.  The Thistle Bloomsbury Park and The President are three star hotels that offer the option of great value theatre breaks, but if you want to push the boat out there are plenty of 4 and 5 star hotels from Thistle and Radisson Blu Edwardian and the odd independent (like the Courthouse, the Dilly and the Rathbone) which are well worth looking at.
