Hi Theatre-goers
Well after “umming” & “ahhing” for an age over whether to employ British or American actors to fill the two lead roles in the new musical The Book of Mormon, opening at the Prince of Wales theatre in March 2013, the producers have decided to go across the big pond and bring over current LA production cast members Gavin Creel and Jared Gertner as the two Mormon Elders sent to Uganda to spread the Christian word.
Jared Gertner is no stranger to London’s West End having appeared in ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Hair’ in recent years. For pint-sized Gavin Creel he will make his West End (and British theatre) debut.
The musical, written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone with Avenue Q co-creator, Robert Lopez, has taken the US by storm. This show is not for the feint hearted and I imagine it’s going cause the same kind of controversy as ‘Jerry Springer – The Opera’ 8 years ago. Knowing it’s a little bit naughty makes me very, very keen to see it!
