Savoy Theatre
Built in 1881 for Richard D’Oyly Carte by the architect CJ Phipps, the Savoy Theatre was the first public building in the world to be lit throughout by electricity. The Auditorium and front of house are in a wonderful art deco style, with aluminum leaf finishes and a five-colour seating scheme and the whole theatre is worthy of being in the same building as the iconic Savoy Hotel. Enter Savoy Court and, to the right, just before you get to the hotel entrance, you will see the theatre entrance. As you enter the box office windows are on your right, whilst to your left the stairs go down to the theatre auditorium, as most of this theatre is below the street level of the Strand.
