Short Breaks In London with a Theatre Break

It is a long hard slog to that summer holiday. Already the few days off over Christmas seem like a long time ago and having checked the credit card statement, maybe one of our short breaks in London would be just the thing to book: get away for a couple of days, see a show, do some of the touristy things that you have been promising yourself that one day you will do.

Well now is a great time to be thinking about heading to London for a short break or theatre break. There are some great shows and some great deals and, as London gears itself up for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer, it really is an exciting place to be.

Highlights for short breaks in London include the London 2012 Festival, the World Shakespeare Festival featuring all 37 of the bard’s plays in 37 languages, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the bicentennial of Charles Dickens. Also, in the art world exhibitions of Picasso, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Yoko Ono, Lucian Freud, and David Hockney not to mention a huge Bauhaus retrospective.  Whilst back on the stage we have – to name a few – Cate Blanchett, Juliette Binoche, a new Damon Albarn Opera, Top Hat, Singin’ in the Rain and the RSC’s brilliant Matilda.

Short Breaks: When is the best time to go?

Half Term Breaks, Easter Breaks, Valentine’s Breaks, Whitsun Breaks, May Day and Diamond Jubilee Breaks – there are a lot of excuses to come to London but maybe you have your own ones. Short breaks are a perfect way to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary or maybe even a hen night! The great attractions are open pretty much every day of the year, every day now there is a world class musical being performed in one of London’s great West End theatres.

Short Breaks Favourite Dates

So here are the dates that should be in your diary between now and your summer holiday.  Short Breaks to London are a favourite for any one of them – and with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee we have another holiday to enjoy!

Half Term Dates: Monday 13 to Friday 17 February 2012 (including Valentine’s Day!)
Easter School Holidays: Last day: 30 March 2012 back to School: 16 April 2012
Easter Dates: Good Friday 06 April 2012, Easter Sunday 08 April 2012 Easter Monday 09 April 2012
May Day Holiday 07 May 2012

What ever days during the week you chose to come to London there will be a world class show playing to create a highlight to your short break – even Sundays host half -a-dozen shows when just a couple of years ago if you took a short break over a Sunday the theatres in London were “dark”.

The busiest days are Saturdays but fortunately London hotels offer some great deals still – especially for two night stays. And if you book your theatre tickets for the Friday night, or the Saturday matinee, or even a Sunday matinee then you really can get some great discounts on those too.
