Mamma Mia! The Show
“A glorious evening of fun!“ – Daily Mail.
“The perfect ticket for a feel-good night out!“ – Daily Telegraph
Mamma Mia Theatre Breaks opened at the Prince Edward Theatre on 06 April 1999, where it had previewed from 23 March that year. It moved to the Prince of Wales theatre five years later and finally transferred to the Novello Theatre, in September 2012.
MAMMA MIA! celebrated its 25th birthday on 6 April 2024 and is now the third longest running West End musical of all time.
It really is a super dooper ABBA Break!
The music is by Abba’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and book by Catherine Johnson. Recently producer, Judy Craymer, was heard to comment that we should not discount a sequel!!!
The musical is kept fresh by a never ending supply of excellent new cast members.
How to save on Mamma Mia Theatre and Hotel Packages
Mamma Mia! is at the Novello Theatre on the Aldwych – use the hotel filters to choose your closest hotels when booking your breaks.
There are some great nearby hotels but it is really easy to get to from anywhere in London, so you don’t necessarily have to pay West End prices if you want to book a more affordable Mamma Mia Theatre Break.
Further afield, or if you want to be mainly in another part of London and then just come into Theatreland for the evening, any hotel on the Piccadilly Line would be within easy access and access to the Northern Line and Bakerloo lines is a short walk down the Strand to Charing Cross Tube Station so there really is lots to chose from. Look at Kensington with its world famous musuems as a great (and slightly cheaper) area to stay.
As far as discounts on the ticket part of the package, try to include tickets for midweek performances – evening and matinees.
Travel
Theatre and hotel breaks to see Mamma Mia! also come with optional discounted rail travel and coal travel, for those of you not wishing to drive.

I've seen this show quite a few times with different casts and I never grow old of it. Wasn't a mega fan of ABBA when they were in the charts, but love the way the songs are woven around to tell a story - they work so well in a musical setting. And the bright white-washed set really makes you believe it's actually on a sunny Greek island. My favourite bit has to be when the boys sings Lay Your Love on Me and do their "flipper" dance - classic.
We went to see Mamma Mia! and had a fantastic night - great cast, great songs, brilliant dancing and felt so good when I left the theatre although I was a bit hoarse from singing too much!!
Mamma Mia! - the best feel good show in London. Have seen it 3 times and will go again.
I recently saw Mamma Mia - lovely, joyous show which we all enjoyed. We loved the end when the audience joined in. Fantastic!
