Old Vic Theatre

Not actually in the West End of London, the Old Vic Theatre is just by Waterloo Station on the south side of the river Thames. Run by a team under Artistic Director Matthew Warchus (Kevin Spacey did the job until 2015) it is one of the few major London theatres which produces its own plays. Recently it famously produced King Lear starring Glenda Jackson.

Historically the theatre was the original home for the National Theatre until it built its own theatre on the Southbank. more information
