KENREX ticket and hotel packages from Theatre Breaks

The story of KENREX, is only partly the story of the townsfolk of Skidmore fighting to escape from under the iron fist of the town bully. It is mainly the story of Jack Holden’s tour-de-force performance. If you saw Jodie Comer’s performance in Suzie Miller’s one-woman play Prima Facie you will understand where I am coming from when I say this is THE play you want to see this winter. Book Now!

Thanks Manuel Harlan for the images of Jack Holden as KENREX – his brother Dom and I used to belong to the same youth theatre group.

Holden plays 21 characters in the telling of this story, bringing a precision to the true crime drama  that takes the breath away. He started his stage career in another ground breaking play: Warhorse but is probably best known for his roles in
TV series Marriage with Sean Bean and Nicola Walker and TV comedy Ten Percent with Jack Davenport.

Composer John Patrick Elliott PIC: Manuel Harlan

KENREX is the true story of how, when Ken Rex McElroy  kills greengrocer Bo Bowenkamp, the citizens of Botaxia decide  that enough is enough and if the courts won’t bring McElroy down, they will.

Brought to the stage of  The Other Palace by Holden and his co-writer Ed Stambollouian, KENREX has already received 5 star reviews  for its run at the Sheffield Playhouse and the Southwark Playhouse.

The other standout for the production is the soundtrack, brought to us by the only other person onstage, musician and songwriter John Patrick Elliott, who brings the sounds of small town Missouri with his pulsating score of Americana. Elliot is an award winning composer (Cruise in 2022) and composed for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Two Gentlemen of Verona.
