Great Expectations Theatre Breaks in London

The 200th birthday of London’s favourite author, Charles Dickens, was the perfect time for the stage adaptation of one of his best-loved novels, Great Expectation, to come to London’s West End: making a Great Expectations Theatre Break a super treat for 2013.

After a very successful UK tour that has seen Graham McLaren’s production hailed as ‘outstanding’, ‘haunting’ and ‘utterly brilliant’ Great Expectations opened at the Vaudeville Theatre on  London Strand on 06 February 2013.

Great Expectations tells the story of a poor young boy, Philip ‘Pip’ Gargery and the characters that he meets: the embittered and reclusive Miss Havisham, the escaped convict Magwitch, the manipulative Jaggers and the beautiful Estella on his journey from blacksmith’s apprentice to a gentleman with wealth and status.

Most of the succesful cast will reprise their roles from the play’s tour: Jack Ellis will star as Jaggers, Chris Ellison as Magwitch and Paula Wilcox as Miss Havisham. Paul Nivison will play Adult Pip.

Jo Clifford, who adapted Great Expectations for the stage, is one of Scotland’s leading playwrights although her plays have been translated and produced all over the around.
