15/10/12 Supreme Superstar

Hi Theatre-goers

I can’t wait until Wednesday night when I’ll be at Wembley watching, for the 2nd time with a month, the sensation that is Jesus Christ Superstar. Now, it would appear that some others don’t share my enthusiasm for this spectacle and I really don’t understand why.

UPDATE: 2026: The award winning production of Jesus Christ Superstar returns to London in 2026 and two more of the world’s most iconic theatres: The London Palladium (22 June to 5 September) and the Theatre Royal Drury Lane (16 October to 09 January).

I first saw it at the O2 Arena in 3rd price seats which weren’t the best of course. Our view of the stage was slightly restricted by the huge lighting scaffold, but it did not distract from the brilliance of what was going on below it.

I could not fault the show – honestly, for me, it was out of this world. Some critics have said it was too loud – emm, hello, it is a “rock opera” and it’s not going to be all whispers and tip-toeing around the stage. Others have criticism Ben Forster (who plays the role of Jesus) as being “shouty” – no way, that man can sing and his rendition of “Gethsemane” left me in tears (good emotional tears, not bad, I might add) .

If you did manage to catch it on its UK arena tour or are indeed coming to Wembley or Sheffield, please let me know what you thought of it. The cast received a standing ovation at the O2 on the night I went, so I can’t be the only one who enjoyed it – can I?

Have a great Monday

Sara
