Hi Theatre-goers
Unusually uninspired this week in bringing you something interesting to read… not like me at all as I always have something to share with you.
Anyhoo, a colleague came to my rescue with the idea of writing about “theatre posters”. At first I looked at him a bit strangely and then I got to thinking what, if any, theatre posters draw a future audience in off the street to see the show.
Out of all of them (and believe me there are millions!) only two – yes just two – stayed in my mind by conjuring up images of what the production means to me and where it takes me emotionally.
The second is the magnificently moving War Horse poster on the right. Look at that horse’s eye – the terror in it! Can you imagine what these animals had to endure? This poster with the horse and the silhouette of the soldiers walking wearily across France speaks volumes to me, I am completely mesmorised by that eye. I’ve seen the show three times and could watch it again and again without, I suspect, ever getting bored.
Have you got a favourite theatre poster? Tell me about it.
