Burlesque in London

Burlesque in London’s West End

When I last worked in London it used only to be the ladies of the night in Soho: now everyone is taking off their clothes – and very prettily too! Welcome to Burlesque and two brand new shows in London: The Hurly Burly Show and Forever Crazy.

2012 will go down in history as the year of the naked gyrating woman… or man! Yes you can book a ticket or a theatre break for you and your husband and you can even tell your friends because Burlersque is not a naughty secret: even that nice Barry Manilow likes it: I asked him!

 The Hurly Burly Show

Starring Miss Polly Rae, The Hurly Burly Show is an all-singing, all-dancing revue with a contemporary twist.

Fusing fashion, music and popular culture, it is the first major burlesque inspired musical spectacular to be staged in a West End Theatre. The music is full of pop hits which have been given the big show treatment: think of the music in Baz Luhrman’s Moulin Rouge and you will get the idea: so expect steamy covers and twisted mash-ups (I am told that is how you say it) from artists including Britney, Lady Gaga, Kylie, Beyonce, Madonna, Prince and many more.

In fact the creative team reads like a who’s who of camp pop: director, William Baker (best known for his creative work with Kylie, Rihanna, Leona Lewis and Westlife), Wayne Cilento (Wicked, Aida), musical direction by Steve Anderson (Kylie, Take That, Britney Spears), choreography by Ashley Wallen (Ghost the Musical) and vocal arrangements by Terry Ronald.

Miss Polly Rae also boats stunning vocal ability allows her to sing songs by the likes of Peggy Lee, Shirley Bassey, Mae West and Doris Day and in 2007 Hurly Burly won Best Troupe at the Ministry Of Burlesque awards.

Forever Crazy

CRAZY HORSE PARIS presents Forever Crazy. Crazy Horse is like the Moulin Rouge or the Lido – think lots of impossibly long-legged ladies with three sequins each.

 Forever Crazy is now closed

Featuring a cast of ten dazzlingly beautiful classically trained dancers (so that makes 30 sequins in total) this lavish spectacle, this celebration of femininity, sensuality and creativity, seductive Parisian cabaret takes place inside an antique Belgium mirrored Spiegel ten where up to 450 guests will enjoy the style, glamour, sophistication and mystique of the original Paris venue

Actually they have a lot more sequins than that it is just they don’t necessarily put them where you or I would put them… or maybe they do!

You will have to wait till September for your Crazy Horse experience – it’s booking from 18 September to 22 December 2012: now there is a spicy highlight to your Christmas shopping trip! Of course there is always Tommy Steele in Scrooge at the London Palladium if you like your Christmas more traditional!

So if you want your West End entertainment with sequins on this year: book a Burlesque show in London today.
